10 Steps to Your Retirement
Blueprint

One question at a time, we draw the plan — from the life you picture to the paycheck that funds it. Ten steps. Nothing to sign up for.

Why this exists

Beyond the Noise exists to help people approaching retirement make confident, informed decisions — through education, interactive tools, and a step-by-step roadmap.

My goal is to simplify complex retirement topics and share the research, tools, and lessons I used to build my own retirement plan. I'm not an advisor and nothing here is a pitch.

How to read it

Every step answers one question. Open a step to see the reading, the episode, and the tool that goes with it.

Step 01Retirement Vision2 articles · 1 tool+

What do I want my retirement to look like?

Before the numbers, the picture. Where you'll live, how you'll spend an ordinary Tuesday, and who's in the frame. Everything that follows is built to fund this — so it's worth getting specific first.

Step 02Budget, Expenses & Healthcare2 articles · 1 tool+

How much will retirement cost, including healthcare?

A real number, not a guess. We separate the essentials from the extras, then give healthcare — the cost most plans underestimate — its own honest line, from premiums to the years that get expensive.

Step 03Asset Class Fundamentals★ Financial History2 articles · 2 tools+

How should I invest my retirement savings?

Stocks, bonds, cash — what each is actually for, how they've behaved across decades, and why owning a mix is less about prediction than patience.

Step 04Modeling & Risk Analysis★ Monte Carlo2 articles · 1 tool+

Will my retirement plan actually work?

We run your plan through hundreds of possible market histories — good, bad, and 2008 — to see how often it holds, not just whether it works on average.

Step 05Choosing a Guardrail2 articles · 1 tool+

How much can I safely spend each year?

A fixed withdrawal ignores what markets are doing. A guardrail adjusts — small raises in good years, gentle trims in bad ones — so you never run dry.

Step 06Selection & Asset Location★ ETF Tool2 articles · 1 tool+

What should I own, and where should I hold it?

Which funds to own, and which account to hold them in. The second question is quietly worth tens of thousands in tax over a retirement.
